A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EMPLOYMENT SPECIALISTAs an Employment Specialist with our human services nonprofit, you help program participants reach their goals and achieve success in their careers.
The key to success in this job coach role is establishing trust and rapport with each participant while making them feel comfortable and valued.
Through comprehensive intakes, you explore their needs, strengths, interests, aptitudes, experience, and capabilities, helping them understand themselves better and identify the right career path.
You then partner with each participant to jointly develop a service plan known as a Family Contract Amendment (FCA), outlining their short-term and long-term employment and other goals.
With your guidance, participants feel empowered and confident in their ability to achieve success.
You regularly meet with participants on your caseload, and also document progress toward their goals and provide ongoing orientation to ensure that they are clear on their TANF and program requirements.
In this job coach role, you secure releases and build effective communication with your participant's medical, behavioral health, and other providers.
You may work with a targeted caseload, focusing on a specific group such as two-parent families, individuals enrolled in higher education, and others.
Through your excellent communication skills as a job coach, you build effective partnerships with external providers to ensure that participants have access to and utilize needed services and support.
Your fantastic talents of record-keeping come in handy as you document all communication and contact with participants and external partners in FedcapCARES.
While our vocational rehabilitation team, you make requests for needed support services such as childcare, transportation, educational services, and others to the Office of Family Independence (OFI) Support Services Unit to assist participants in achieving their FCA requirements.
As an Employment Specialist, you uphold all agency policies and expectations in performing your job.
You run reports in FedcapCARES and use data to plan your daily and weekly tasks.
You also contact and reschedule participants who miss appointments with you, ensuring that everyone stays on track.
As a member of our vocational rehabilitation team, you represent Fedcap with all stakeholders and in the community in a positive and professional manner.
